My Story

I have been practicing psychotherapy in the Seattle area for over thirty years. I have experience and enjoy working with people who are dealing with all kinds life stressors. After getting my BA, I worked in an inpatient treatment program for young adults with schizophrenia. Soon after moving to Seattle in 1978, a close family member was diagnosed with cancer and I became interested in the relationships between illness, mental health, and family dynamics. This led to eight years as a volunteer with Cancer Lifeline and a decision to get my Master's Degree in counseling in 1987. Afterwards I specialized in treating traditional mental health issues by working in community mental health agencies in Snohomish county. In 2003 I earned a certificate in Medical Family Therapy, training at UW Family Medicine. I then spent 10 years as a behavioral health specialist in three primary care clinics at Swedish Medical Group providing traditional mental health treatment in collaboration with medical providers. There I learned the art and skill of collaborative, patient centered care. Recently I worked with nursing home patients through Senior Connections and I now currently facilitate two cancer support groups with Cancer Lifeline.
While I have developed a specialty in working with the emotional impact of serious illness, I still enjoy working with individuals who are dealing with depression, anxiety, interpersonal and family conflicts, job related stress, parenting concerns, and the impact of life transitions.
